Our Woodcock hunting opens the 15th of September each year, while Grouse hunting starts on October 1st. We have a good "local" population of Woodcock and are located in the woodcock migration route. By the first week of October, we start getting our first flights.

We have very liberal limits on each species, with eight woodcock and six grouse daily - double these amounts for total possession.

Our fine line of imported Irish Setters - from the British Isles - are used on upland birds, and I am sure you will enjoy these "old fashioned" guys!

We have a list of different "combination  packag
es" that you can choose from. Your licenses are available right here at the lodge.

For additional information regarding available space, "best times" or
anything else that may cross your
mind, please call, fax or e-mail us
(mirainn@nbnet.nb.ca).

Your hosts will make your visit with us a comfortable and friendly escape from the ordinary!

The POINTING DOG JOURNAL - March/April 1997 - "TRIP REPORT - New Brunswick Woodcock - Dave Meisner

".... The coverts that my brother Jack and I were hunting were those of a likeable French Canadian by the name of André Godin, the proprietor of the Auberge Miramichi Inn near Red Bank in New Brunswick. Never mind the unfriendly coverts; André's Inn is an absolutely delightful place, one of only four lodges in all of New Brunswick with a four star rating from the Canada Select Accommodations Rating Program. André's wife Susan is a fabulous cook, and gourmet meals are an everyday occurance.

The log main lodge and nearby guest house are warm and inviting, sleeping up to 12 hunters and/or fishermen comfortably. It sits atop a hillside overlooking the world-famous Little Southwest Miramichi River, which at times, of course, teems with Atlantic Salmon. Salmon draws a lot of customers to André's lodge. The Salmon season is long, beginning in mid-April and continuing until mid-October. Then, come October, the grouse and woodcock hunters move in, many of whom enjoy combination salmon fishing/woodcock hunting trips until Salmon season closes on October 15th. After that it's die-hard grouse and woodcock hunters only left to close out the season at the Miramichi Inn...."

"... One of the unique things about André's operation is his use of Irish Setters - exclusively - for his grouse and woodcock dogs..." "André's dogs knew their job and did it well. The dogs were always in bell range and were all business; they hunted every minute they were on the ground, never pottering, always searching...When the bell stopped and you found one of André's dogs on point, the birds tended to be very close at hand, sometimes unbelievably close..."

We hunted behind Glen's Irish Setter, Decklan, a product of André's breeding program. Deck had a bird nailed within minutes of our arrival at the first covert and before the day ended, we'd experienced an astonishing total of 52 flushes - 44 woodcock and 8 grouse - fully two thirds of which had been pointed by the well-mannered Setter.
We'd hunted only about six hours, two in the morning and four in the afternoon. If you do the math on that, it's a bird moved, on average, every seven minutes!...

"I can assure you that you will enjoy the company of this affable French Canadian and his charming wife and the warm hospitality of their lodge."
